When I add the {first_name}, {{first_name}}, manually or by clicking the {} button, the name does not appear. Please advise.

Check it at your flow. The variable must appear with its name and a blue background:
And if this as it should be, try creating an automation from scratch and test it…
IF the problem continues:
- Refresh your permissions
- (If it still doesn't works) Open a ticket to the support team. They will be able to investigate it.
