I’m confused about “contacts” who seem to be people that I’ve chatted to in the last few weeks (even though I’ve only had a Manychat account for a week.)

  1. If people are “subscribed” can I send them a message outside of the 24 hours? If so how? (I seem to be able to send them a message on “live chat” but I don’t see how that’s better than sending them a message on IG.)
  2. Is there a “7 day cut off”? (I’ve tried to message some people and it says “the last interaction with this person was more than 7 days ago”.) In which case, what’s the point of them being a contact if I can’t contact them.

So the rules depend on what channel you’re using. For Instagram there’s a 24 hours rule and you must message them within 24 hours from their last interaction. You cannot contact them after.

The only way to message people outside the window is to do it from the IG app, not from Manychat.

As for using the Live Chat, the advantage is that when you use it all other automations in your bot are paused - so you can talk to the person and not have your conversation interrupted by automations. In more complex bots this is key!

Can I clarify re contacts. There’s no way to message people after the 24 hour window (other than manually) on IG? (So I don’t understand what the advantage of having them as contacts is.) How do you set up an automation to remove them? (I think it was you who mentioned that?)


You can go to Contacts, Select the contacts, and delete them.

Or you can use an action to delete the subscribers after some time.

The advantage of keeping them is that you keep their data history (kinda like a CMR), and I always tell my clients to make the most of each engagement!

This means:

  • Getting them on multiple channels (email at least, phone/whatsapp also if possible)
  • Making the most of the 24 hours (have them reengage, send them extra content, etc)

If you’re successful doing that then it makes total sense keeping your contacts since you have a longer-term strategy and not only a comment + one reply automation.
