Getting ManyChat communicating with MailerLite through Zapier

Hey ​@KarenMc, just to confirm, you’re sending emails from Manychat and from MailerLite?

And the MailerLite emails are going out, but the Manychat emails aren’t.

Is this the case?

If so, check what’s triggering your Manychat automations that send emails, and make sure they’re being triggered correctly.

You can, for example, add the emails to a sequence and subscribe the person to the sequence. And there are other ways to do it, but the sequence is probably the easiest.

If this is not the problem, then if you can send a more details explanation that would be great!

Hi Gustago - thank you for responding.  Yes, that’s correct.

I spent several hours on the live chat with Zapier yesterday. They suggested I add another action in the Zap to trigger ManyChat to "subscribe user to a sequence"....which I did. It took some doing to understand what information was needed to do that....but it still doesn't test well, so it doesn't work either. 

You don’t need to do that through Zapier, you can do that straight in Manychat with an action.

I created a new sequence in ManyChat yesterday.  When I created it, I was prompted to connect an “automation” (which I already built) rather than add messages manually.  I used that sequence name in the Zap set up as a new action. Are you saying I can use ManyChat to send the sequence once the keyword is provided by a new contact?  I guess this is where I am stuck. 

I know another ManyChat User that uses Convertkit instead of MailerLite and the way I’ve set up my ManyChat is just like hers.  She didn’t use the Sequence in ManyChat but used Zapier to perform the function I am trying to accomplish.

You’re most likely overcomplicating things…

Your whole automation in Manychat should look something like this (in this order):

1. Person opts in via Instagram Keyword, the automation triggers
2. Person leaves their email
3. You send a Zap to send the email address to MailerLite
4. You subscribe the person to the sequence you created
5. You send them a ‘thank you check your inbox message’

This whole thing above is one automation, the one that triggers when they type the keyword.

The sequence you created should have ONLY email messages you want to send to the person. So each automation on that sequence equals one email message that is sent at the timing you desire.

In parallel and separately, your MailerLite automation will start and the person will also get emails from MailerLite.

I am sending a screenshot so you can see that the Manychat automation that I created does seem to follow your description. It is one automation which is triggered with a keyword. Then the sequence should be multiple IG messages going out with delays in between. The problem is that it doesn’t work….the sequence doesn’t seem to be triggering. I built the Zap to connect ManyChat with MailerLite to gather email addresses. This seems tow work and email addresses are being sent to Subscriber list and does add the email to a group. I think the MailerLite email automation is probably triggered.  Would it help if I sent a screen shot of my Zap?

And I also don’t see where you’re adding the person to the sequence. There’s a specific action for that.

Lastly, the last message you have set up is outside the 24 hours, so it won’t send to most users. You have to make sure all your messages are always within 24 hours from the last interaction from the user (in this case, the moment they type their email).

This is my Zap.  I have set up the first step in ManyChat as New Subscriber (should that be different?) Another fellow user used this as their first step and it worked for them.  Do you think I should change that step?  In my Zap, the last step subscribes the user to the sequence (but this is where the Zap fails to test).  Hopefully by seeing both the ManyChat and the Zap now, you can identify where I am going wrong.

Where do I add the person to the sequence directly on Manychat?

Using an action to ‘Subscribe to Sequence’

I am not sure that my tag is working with MailerLite.  Maybe that is the issue.  The person I learned from doesn’t use MailerLite. She used ConvertKit.  I think ConvertKit utilizes the tag.  Do you have direction on how to trigger the Zap in ManyChat?

I just had another IG user enter my keyword and they received the messages.  So I guess it works.  I just wasn’t seeing it in the testing with the Zap.

Your trigger is set to new subscriber. This will happen before they leave their email.

You need to change the trigger to ‘New Tagged User’
