Hi ManyChat community! 👋

I’m trying to collect subscribers to my broadcast list through ads.

I’m experiencing an issue where my ManyChat flow is not triggering correctly for users who click on my Facebook Messenger ad. Instead, they receive a generic message that I believe is overriding the intended ManyChat flow.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  1. I’ve set up a Facebook Messenger ad and linked it to my ManyChat flow using a the “Message will be sent to customers when they click on your ads”
  2. I’ve checked Facebook’s settings, and there are no active auto-responder rules or automations on my page.
  3. ManyChat is connected to my Facebook page, and my Welcome Message and Default Reply in ManyChat are turned off.
  4. My flow works perfectly when testing the testing it on preview on facebook.

Despite these efforts, users are still receiving a generic Facebook message when they click the ad, and my ManyChat flow isn’t starting as expected.

Genereic message “

"Hi Oliver fxxxx! Tell us how we can help you."

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Could it be something with how the ad is linked to the flow or a Facebook-specific setting I’m missing?

I’d greatly appreciate any insights, advice, or troubleshooting tips you could share! 🙏

Thank you so much in advance for your help! 😊

I’ve followed these guides
https://manychat.com/blog/a-step-by-step-guide-to-creating-ads-that-click-to-subscribe-with-manychat/

but some of the stuff here is missing. Example:

Also preview on Facebook itself are showing the correct message. But when i test it out myself i get “

"Hi Oliver fxxxx! Tell us how we can help you."”

I am seeing a very similar issue when attempting to link a click to msg integration between facebook and manychat. Hoping for a response here.

Hey, @OliverDK / @seano480!

Did you already tried to use the Ad Trigger?

https://help.manychat.com/hc/en-us/articles/14281372007196-Facebook-Ads-Trigger
(Activating the trigger before going to the Adsmanager should make it appear on "partnerapp”)

Hope this helps! 🙌

Hi - no this is not the solution, won’t work. It does not send the message.
They see either “Get started” or they see “

"Hi Oliver fxxxx! Tell us how we can help you."”

Hey, @Fabio Gaulke thanks for the response. Yes, I have tried using that ad trigger setup. I have one running with virtually that exact setup but it is not working. It is still defaulting back to the greeting similar to what he is experiencing but the message is slightly different for me. I did notice a note on that guide however that I am going to attempt now, but I don’t believe they are going to fix the issue because I don’t believe that the automation was updated after activation of the ad on facebook.

Here is the example of an old automation trigger that I was trying to get to work without success.  @Fabio Gaulke

This should work for Messenger. But recommendation is to use “Quick Replies” instead of Buttons for the first message. Also, there’s no need to set it as “comment reply” in this case.

And in order to edit this automation, first you must pause your ad, edit the automation/ update it and restart your ad.

I recommend testing it.

@Fabio Gaulke Thank you, I have gone ahead and switched the first message over to quick replies instead of comment replies. I went ahead and made sure that the ad/ad set/campaign were all turned off while making edits to the automation and turned them back on after. I am waiting on the 2 hour activation period to run tests. I will report back later this afternoon!

Hey! I wanted to report back. Here’s the process I followed:

1. Pause All Ad Components:

In Ads Manager, I paused the campaign, ad sets, and ads. This fully took the ads offline. Note: Once resumed, Facebook may take a few hours to approve and reactivate them.

2. Check Automation Settings:

I reviewed the automation to ensure it didn’t require updates before reactivating the ads. I saved the settings and confirmed that automation and triggers were turned on.

3. Verify Campaign Setup:

Buying Type: Set to “Auction.”

Campaign Objective: Set to “Engagement” (to enable assigning a message template in the ads section).

Conversion Location: Set to “Message Destinations” in Ad Sets.

Ad Creative: Confirmed the ad creative, message template, and partner app connection were correctly set up. I also verified placement settings.

4. Activate the Campaign:

After verifying everything, I turned on the campaign, ad sets, and ads. I tested the setup using previews but waited for the ads to go live before testing further to ensure functionality.

5. Thorough Testing in Preview:

In the ad preview area, I selected the arrow in the top-right corner and chose the “Send notification to Facebook” option. This sent a notification to my personal profile (used to manage the accounts). Clicking the notification triggered the automation in Messenger, allowing me to test the entire process successfully outside of the ad preview.

Now, I’m starting to see message conversions in the campaign!
