I would like to create an automation that will send new followers on Instagram a discount code for their first purchase. Can I create some action that will check if the number of followers has increased, or if a given account has already followed my account? I want to avoid a situation where someone will unfollow my account and follow again just for the coupon.

You could also setup a logic where, if the person already got a discount, they cannot get a 2nd one. You can do this handling tags + conditions.
