ManyChat Messages Sent to General Inbox Instead of Primary on Instagram

I am experiencing an issue with the integration between ManyChat and Instagram. Whenever my customers respond to automatic messages sent through ManyChat, their responses go to the "General" inbox on Instagram instead of the "Primary" inbox. This is causing me to miss important interactions since I don't see these messages right away.

I have tried adjusting settings in both ManyChat and Instagram, but I haven't been able to find a solution. I would appreciate any help on how to make sure that the automated messages from ManyChat are directed to the "Primary" inbox instead of "General." Please help me 😭

Hi ​@Evesita and ​@Ram Bo , thanks for sharing this — I totally understand your frustration, especially when you want to catch important conversations right away! 😊

From my experience, Instagram’s Primary vs. General inbox sorting is fully controlled by Instagram, not by ManyChat. This means that even if the message is triggered by a bot, Instagram may still place the reply in “General,” depending on their own internal rules and how they classify each user.

Because of this, a reliable workaround is to:

  • Download the ManyChat mobile app,

  • Enable notifications, and

  • Check messages directly from the ManyChat Inbox.

All conversations will appear there instantly (regardless of Instagram’s Primary/General sorting), so you won’t miss any replies.
