Trying to add a smart delay to an automation but cannot figure it out. Need help!

You can easily double click on the canvas and select the Smart Delay block from the menu:

 

Than you can select the duration or specific date for that delay:

 

Just connect it to your steps and it should work fine.

 

IMPORTANT: be aware of Meta's 24h window for messaging. If you define a delay longer than 24h and the contact makes no interaction with your chat, nothing will be send.

Your flow has some inconsistencies and will not work as expected...

 

For your case, it should be built like this:

  1. Your Triggers
  2. Action: Set Instagram Opt-In (good practice) + Some Tag to identify the contact wich triggered the automation (“Tips” in this example)
  3. A first short message with a button or quick reply: Sending buttons with links right away don't engages the contact very much… It's always better to create a minimal conversation before.
  4. More explanation + Buttons with your links
  5. Action: sets a tag to whomever click on one of the links (Clicked, for example).
  6. Smart Delay: how much time you what to wait before sending a “remember me” message (must be less than 24h because of the conversation window).
  7. Condition: Verifies if the "Clicked” Tag isn't set to te user.
    - If the contact doesn't click any button, he hasn't the "Clicked” tag, and will get the next message
    - If the contact clicked any button, he has the tag, and nothing will be sent.
  8. “Remembre me” message: a last message to remember the contact to perform any action before the 24h window closes.

 


What happens if I set a smart delay with a date that exceeds 24hs? Will it be sent? I read something about the 24hs policy but manychat let me configure it... should I turn off the automation just in case?

Hi, @gonfernandezi! If the last interaction of your contact surpasses the 24h windows, the automation doesn't continue to the next step.

 

Manychat lets you set more than 24h because there's a beta feature called IG Broadcast (https://igbroadcasting.manychat.com/), wich is currently ON HOLD for new accounts. With that your contacts can subscribe to a list and receive messages after the 24h window.
