How do I set it up where any message that comes in to whatsapp will trigger the automation? I have tried where if the it doe not contain a certain word it would trigger it but that is not saving for some reason.

Maybe setting a Default Reply up could solve your problem...
You can also define if it triggers every time or once per 24h:
