We have an automation that triggers from any comment on our post/reels to:

  • Ask a question. The response tags the type of user (custom tag)
  • After action to tag, the Follower Condition is checked.
    • If Yes they follow us, it sends the download links.
    • If no,  the “ask to follow link” is supposed to be sent.

That “ask to follow link” lets users click to automatically follow our account then move on to the next step to deliver the download links.The follow-link is not being sent. 

Is this happening (or rather not happening) because we have to wait 24 hrs from the 1st user response (their comment on our post and response to the initial question?

Your automation should be something like this:
Post/reel → user comment → Your first DM → condition block to check if they follow your account → ask to follow link.

You don’t have to wait 24h from the first interaction, instead, after the last user interaction you have a 24-hour window to send them messages, and the first message with a button (without link) will open the 24-hour window.

Thanks for responding. It’s not quite what I was asking. Does the “ask to follow link” count as the 2nd interaction within the 24 hr period is a better question.

No. Messages that contain buttons with links don’t count as an interaction regarding the 24-hour window.
