How do I know if automations are working? Do I still need to go into my IG/fb and see if a response was recieved. Thank you in advance! I am very new here.

Hi @bws Welcome to Manychat 🥳!!

Yes — you can definitely test it yourself 👍

The easiest way is to comment on your own post and then check if the automation is triggered in your personal Facebook or Instagram account. If you receive the automated message, that means everything is working correctly.

Just keep in mind that on Instagram, comment automations are triggered only once per user per post. So if you comment a second time, the automation won’t fire again.

This is totally normal behavior. Hope this helps, and welcome! 😊

cheers!

Hi @bws

You’re getting contacts because any person who interacts with your connected messaging inboxes (Instagram or Facebook) becomes a contact in ManyChat.

This happens regardless of whether the conversation was started by a ManyChat automation or manually. For example, if someone sends you a DM, replies to a story, or interacts with your page’s inbox, they will be added as a contact even if your automations are not currently firing.

Regarding your automations not working, I recommend reviewing your flows and triggers, and also trying this quick fix, which often resolves IG automation issues:

Refreshing your Instagram permissions in ManyChat

You can do this by going to ManyChat → Help → Refresh Permissions.

Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide in case you need it:

https://help.manychat.com/hc/en-us/articles/14281308423452-Instagram-automation-troubleshooting

I’m glad to have you here, and I hope this helps! 😊

I have both of instagram and facebook connected. I am getting more comments on facebook than instagram. Is this why I am not seeing the automations working yet?

Hi @bws 😊

No — having more comments on Facebook than on Instagram does not prevent Instagram automations from working. Facebook and Instagram comment automations work independently from each other.

If the Instagram comment automation is still not firing, I’d recommend double-checking a few key things:

  1. Trigger setup
Make sure the correct Instagram post is selected in the Comment Trigger and that the trigger is turned ON.

  2. Flow structure
Review your flow to ensure every message step is properly connected and that there are no loose blocks that would prevent the flow from starting.

  3. Permissions

A quick fix that often helps is refreshing your Instagram permissions in ManyChat.
You can do this by going to your ManyChat account and clicking Help → Refresh Permissions.

At this point, the best next step is to go through the official Instagram automation troubleshooting guide. It covers several edge cases that can cause comment automations to stop firing and is very helpful for diagnosing situations like this:
