Anyone else feels like the AI Steps in ManyChat are pretty much useless?

I’ve been testing them with Arabic, and they make tons of mistakes — sometimes no response at all, sometimes completely wrong answers, even with well-crafted prompts.

Has anyone actually managed to get good results with them?
Especially for non-English languages?

Curious to hear real experiences before I give up on it 😅

Hey there! 👋 I totally feel your pain about the ManyChat AI Steps! 😩

I’ve been testing them too, and yeah, those initial results—especially with non-English languages—can be rough. My main flows are in Spanish (Español), so I’ve definitely fought this battle with language nuances and weird outputs!

Don't give up yet! I managed to build a system that works great for my lead collection and pre-qualification. Here are my biggest takeaways and why I think the AI Step might feel "useless" at first:

🤯 The AI Step Mindset Shift

The biggest thing I realized is that ManyChat's AI Step is truly designed to be just that: a single, isolated step.

  • My Setup: I handle the greeting/welcome sequence with a regular bot flow. I only hand it off to the AI Step for the part that requires intelligence (like collecting specific data or pre-qualifying leads).

  • The 10-Step Limit: This is crucial! The AI Step is highly limited. If your process is complex, you must split it into multiple AI Steps because one step can only manage 10 instructions or less. If it needs more, it breaks or behaves weirdly.

✍️ The Secret to a Good Prompt (and avoiding errors)

The magic isn't just in the 'Context' (the prompt) but in how you align it with the 'Steps':

  • The Goal (500 Chars): This is just a title. Keep it simple.

  • The Context (The REAL Prompt): This is where you develop your full prompt. I highly recommend spending time here to detail the tone and how it should handle your specific language (Arabic in your case!).

Pro Tip: Rewrite those 10 Steps! When you first set up the AI Step, it tries to create 10 steps for you based on your context. These are usually terrible! You have to go in and rewrite those 10 max steps to be perfectly aligned with your detailed prompt (Context). If the steps and the context don't match up, you'll get those no-responses or completely wrong answers!

Honestly, the AI Step has strong limitations right now, but once you treat it as a tiny, highly-focused assistant with a clear, step-by-step checklist, it becomes super helpful for qualification!

Hope this helps you avoid throwing in the towel! Let me know if you decide to share your current prompt/steps—maybe we can debug it! 🚀
