I have a trial reel which got over 40K views… and over 400 comments mentioning my keyword. But the related automation didn’t trigger (probably an issue with permissions through refreshing permission does not work, I get an error message). Now do I have to go through all the comments and DM all these people the link they should have received automatically?

The automations will not trigger retroactively.
That permission error you hit when refreshing is very likely the real cause. When the Instagram permission handshake half-fails, the comment trigger quietly stops firing even though the automation still shows LIVE, so everything looks fine on your end while nothing actually sends. Worth fixing before your next reel or it'll happen again. And for the 400 you already got, don't assume all of them are a lost cause just yet.
