Can you use voice notes with Data collection? or what is the workaround?

Is there a way to have voice note for data collection? The reason I ask is because I want to be able to use the action on reply and the if contact has not responded options.

Thanks

Hi @Frank V , At the moment, voice notes aren’t supported in ManyChat’s Data Collection or Action on Reply. Those features only work with structured inputs like text, email, phone, or multiple choice — not audio.

Best workarounds:

  • Voice + text confirmation: send the voice note for context, then ask the user to reply with a short text or keyword (YES / OK / answer). Use that reply for Action on Reply or Data Collection.

  • Voice + buttons: follow the voice note with quick replies or buttons to keep full control of the logic and fallbacks.

  • Non-responders: you can still use “If contact has not responded” based on no interaction at all.

External speech-to-text via API is possible, but outside native ManyChat and adds complexity.

Hope this helps!

Thanks @cata_rendon, is there a reason why this can’t be built out as a manychat feature?

Could you please give me more details on how to set this up:

  • Non-responders: you can still use “If contact has not responded” based on no interaction at all.

Hi @Frank V ,

It means that if the user has not replied to the text/button confirmation (after they received the voice message), you can still use this feature to send a follow-up message accordingly — for example, a reminder to listen to the voice message and type a reply or press the required button to continue.

Just keep in mind that the voice message must come before the data collection message, exactly as you have it set up in your screenshot.

Best,
