DM from comment isn't responding to everyone

Hey guys!

I’m a social media manager for @banjobenclark and the feature I use the most is the DM from a comment. So usually it’s goes “comment BANJO and I’ll send you the link to this weeks lesson”. The auto dm from comment template doesn’t allow me to send a link in the first message to that person so for FB & IG, I just start from a blank canvas and set the trigger to “user comments on post” and fill everything out from there.

For the most part, these work pretty well but there’s been a few posts where I’ve noticed it doesn’t reply to everyone that comments the particular word. I saw on a help page that sometimes the automation will bug out and not comment back to the user but the DM will still send, however this is not the case. This has happened on both IG and FB.

How do I get my automations to work for 100% of the users that comment the keyword?

This is almost always Meta-side, not your build. Instagram's comment webhooks have been unreliable since late 2025, so some comments never reach the automation at all, which  means no DM ever fires for those people.

Are the misses spiking on your higher-volume posts? IG rate-limits replies per hour, and how each tool handles that overflow varies, so that's worth ruling out. Also worth a  fresh reconnect so no permission has quietly lapsed, and keep in mind a lot of those first DMs land in the person's Message Requests folder, so some "misses" actually did send but never got seen.

Hi @BiancaLeDuc

A few things that usually cause this:

The most common reason an automation doesn't reach 100% of commenters is Instagram/Meta's rate limits — Meta caps how many automated replies can go out in a given window, so on high-volume posts some users simply won't get the DM. The comment also has to match your keyword exactly, so it's worth double-checking spelling/variations people might use.

A few things that help keep your automations running cleanly:

  • Use different keywords for different posts instead of repeating the same one.
  • Try not to include the link in the very first message — Meta can flag it as spam. Send a quick natural reply first, then the link in a follow-up message.
  • Add a Smart Delay between messages so the conversation looks natural.
  • Aim to make the flow feel like a real conversation (2+ interactions) rather than an instant link drop.

One more thing: when I just tested by commenting on a post, I did receive the DM, but it landed in the "Hidden Requests" / hidden inbox — so the message may actually be sending, just not showing up where you'd expect. Worth checking there too.

Hope this helps!
