Flow Not Triggering

Hi everyone, I’m running into an issue with my ManyChat bot where the onboarding flow isn’t triggering when someone first messages my page.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • The onboarding flow is set up correctly, but it’s not being triggered when a new user sends a message to my Facebook page.

  • I’ve tested this on different devices and with multiple accounts, but the onboarding flow simply does not activate.

  • Instead, I’m getting a generic message or some unexpected reply that shouldn’t be showing up.

What I’ve already tried:

  • Checked the trigger keywords to ensure they are correctly set up.

  • Reviewed the flow settings to confirm that the onboarding flow is the first message after the user interacts.

  • Ensured ManyChat is set as the primary receiver in the Facebook app.

  • Refreshed Facebook permissions and reconnected the Facebook page to ManyChat.

Has anyone else encountered this issue where the onboarding flow fails to trigger? Any suggestions or ideas on how I can fix this would be greatly appreciated!

    ​@James Love is the flow set as the ‘Welcome Message’ or ‘Default Reply’?

    If it’s with the Default Reply, is it set to trigger every time?

    Can you send a screenshot of your trigger setup?

    Hi ManyChat Support,

    My Facebook Messenger automation is LIVE and works when I manually use “Pick Automation,” but it does not always trigger automatically when a new user sends “hi” or “hello” to my Facebook Page.


    Current setup:
    - Automation is LIVE
    - Triggers: Welcome Message and Default Reply
    - I refreshed Facebook permissions
    - Meta Business Integration permissions are enabled
    - In Meta, ManyChat has “Access standby channel” and “Take control of conversations” enabled
    - Some users receive the automation, but some new users only appear in Meta Inbox and ManyChat does not send the automation automatically
    - ManyChat Messenger setting shows “Current Manychat Role: Unknown”

    Can you please check:
    1. Whether ManyChat is the primary Messenger receiver / thread owner for my Facebook Page
    2. Whether Handover Protocol is correctly set
    3. Whether Meta Inbox or ad message templates are taking control before ManyChat
    4. Why Welcome Message / Default Reply does not trigger for every new Messenger user
    5. Whether my Page connection has any permission or routing issue

    Please help me identify exactly why some new Messenger conversations do not trigger the live automation automatically.
