Hi everyone,

I’m facing a serious issue with my Instagram account and I’d love some help or insights from the community.

Whenever someone tries to follow me, a pop-up appears saying “Beware of potential scams” and shows my account creation date with a confirmation button.

My account is old, active, and I post regularly. It’s verified on Meta with my ID — so this warning makes my account look suspicious even though my activity is 100% authentic. Since it started, my daily follower count dropped from 100+ per day to barely 10 😩

I’ve already contacted Instagram support. They told me to reinstall the app, but that didn’t fix anything.

The only thing I can think of is that I use Manychat (a Meta partner) to send automated messages when people comment on my posts asking for free resources. It works really well — people engage a lot — but I’m wondering if this automation could have triggered the warning.

Has anyone here experienced the same issue or found a fix?

Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated 🙏

Thanks a lot,

Bilal (@bilal_ncr)

Hi, @TechOverlord!

There’s no way Manychat (or any other automation tool) could cause that issue... it’s 100% on Meta’s side.

I’ve seen that before with accounts that weren’t even connected to Manychat. I also talked to IG support (total frustration), and after a few weeks, it just magically stopped.

It could also happen if some users reported your messages or content as spam/scam, or if the content you share falls into some “gray area” that could be interpreted as misleading or scam-like.

Hi @Fabio Gaulke

Thanks for the quick answer.

I heavily uses Manychat so this is why I wonder if this is linked eventhought to be fair I don’t think it’s the case.
I’ve stopped all my automations for the moment.

My content is about 3D printing so no gray area :/

Do you recommend me to wait and see ?

Nice 3D printing content!! 🙌

Do you use any kind of URL shortener or redirection service with your shared links?
Meta doesn’t like links with too many redirects (if you try that with ads, they usually get rejected pretty quickly).

I’d keep the automations running and wait a bit. In the meantime, stay in touch with IG Support and test whatever they suggest. 🙃

Wish I could help more, but beyond that, I’ve got no clue if there’s anything else to try.

Thanks a ton for your help mate !

Here is what the META team said about it :

I checked your account and everything is fine—you don't have any active restrictions!

The warning message that appears when people subscribe to your account is due to high activity on the account over a short period of time. Don't worry, this message is only temporary and will no longer appear once the account activity calms down a bit. I therefore advise you to limit activity on this account for a few days so that the system no longer detects your account as suspicious. I hope this information has been helpful. It has been a pleasure to assist you and respond to your request. Please note that I have provided you with all the necessary resources and information on this subject. I would therefore like to inform you that I will now be closing this case. If you have any further questions or require additional assistance, please feel free to contact us via chat or email using this link: www.facebook.com/business/help. Once again, thank you for your cooperation and understanding, Bilal!

Seems like letting go the automation a bit was the good move here.

I think Manychat should warn heavy users like myself that this can happen to their accounts.

Warning ⚠️  : if you have too much engagement Meta might think you are a scammer.
