Question

How do I know from which ad someone sent me a message?

I use Facebook Messenger to communicate with people on my page, but now I’ve bought ManyChat and want to use it for messaging on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

On Facebook and Instagram, when I have ads published and someone sends me a message, it shows up from which ad they’re sending me a message. However, in ManyChat, I no longer see any information about that. This is a crucial problem for me because I run multiple ads for different products. When someone sends me a message asking about the price of a product, I don’t know which product they’re referring to.

How is it possible to see from which ad someone sends a message? Is it possible to do so?

Hi @Multicolor welcome to ManyChat!

Attribution is indeed crucial when running multiple ads for different products — you need to know exactly where your leads are coming from. The good news is ManyChat has a built-in feature designed for this: Ads Triggers

Ads Triggers automatically initiate a ManyChat conversation when someone interacts with your Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp ads. This means each automation is tied directly to a specific ad, giving you full visibility on which campaign is driving each conversation.

How to set it up:
Set up your automations using the Ads Trigger feature instead of Meta's default conversation starters. When configuring the automated message, make sure to select "Partner App" as the message type — avoid using Meta's native conversation starter templates, as they won't give you the same attribution tracking.

A few important limitations to keep in mind:
- Facebook Ads Trigger is only available for Traffic, Engagement, and Sales campaign objectives.
- Once an automation is linked to an active ad, it cannot be modified — so make sure your flow is finalized before connecting it to a live campaign.

- Each platform (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) has its own Ads Trigger setup.

Yes, but usually you have to capture that ad info inside the automation Manychat does not always show it as clearly as Facebook/Instagram inbox does.

The usual way is:

  • use the ad-specific entry point in Manychat

  • apply a tag or set a custom field when someone enters from that ad

  • then you can see later which ad/product they came from

So for example:

  • Ad 1 → tag = Product A

  • Ad 2 → tag = Product B

or save the ad name into a custom field.

If you’re running multiple ads, that’s really the safest setup, because otherwise once the message lands in Manychat, it can be hard to tell which ad started it.

So yes, it’s possible but you usually need to track it intentionally with tags or custom fields, not rely on Manychat showing it automatically every time.
