How to send a reel via a button in a DM

Hey! I am setting up a new follower DM automation and I am asking a each new follower a question. They then click on a button to answer the question and then are supposed to be sent a reel. But I can only figure out how to send the reel where it opens a browser inside the Instagram app. It doesn’t just take them straight to the reel. See screenshots for context. Is there a better way to do this?

I am just adding the URL of the reel to the bottom action. But this opens it in Instagram as if you’re opening an external link. Any tips?

Hi @chloedroberts , what a great idea to resend a Reel inside your new-follower flow — it’s a smart way to increase engagement on your IG account! 😊 And yes, you’re taking the right approach.

From what I understand, Instagram treats any Reel shared via a URL as an external link, so it always opens in the in-app browser, not directly inside the Reels viewer. This behavior is controlled by Instagram, not ManyChat.

One thing you could try is sending the Reel as plain text instead of a button inside so users tap the link directly in the message. It may feel a bit more natural for them — but my guess is that it will still open in the same browser-style view.

I hope this clarifies it a bit! Let me know if you find any workaround that works differently.

Cheers!

Hi! That makes sense. I tried it as a plain text link and it still opened it in an external browser.

Nice to know I am doing it the right way though! Thanks for the response.
