Hello ManyChat Team,

I’m currently considering using ManyChat for our Instagram shop automation and would like to ask whether the following workflow is supported and safe to operate within Instagram/Meta policy.

Our planned automation flow is:

  1. A user leaves a specific keyword comment on an Instagram post

  2. An automatic DM is sent to that user

  3. The system checks whether the user follows our Instagram account

  4. If they are following, a coupon code or private link is sent automatically

  5. If they are not following yet, a follow prompt is sent first

We estimate approximately 200–300 automated DM sends per day depending on campaign performance.

Could you please advise on the following:

  1. Is this workflow fully supported through ManyChat’s official Instagram integration?

  2. Is follower-status checking available within automation flows?

  3. Is sending around 200–300 automated DMs per day considered safe / normal usage?

  4. Are there any Instagram messaging limits, risks, or best practices we should be aware of?

  5. Would this type of flow risk account restrictions if implemented properly through ManyChat?

We operate a legitimate e-commerce fashion store and want to ensure everything is compliant and stable before launching campaigns.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Quick answers from someone in the Meta API space:

1. Supported. Keyword trigger → DM → "Is a Follower" condition → branch is native to ManyChat's Instagram integration.

2. Yes. Follower status check uses Instagram's is_user_follow_business API, live per flow run.

3. 200-300/day is safe. Instagram Private Replies cap is 750/hr per account. You're at ~13/hr average.

4. Main things to watch:

    - 24hr messaging window: after the user's last message, Meta silently drops anything automated sent outside that window (API returns success, user never sees it).

   - Private Reply window: 7 days from the comment, after that the comment can't trigger a DM.

   - Warmup: dormant/new account suddenly sending 200+ DMs/day can get flagged regardless of tool. Ramp up 2-3 weeks.

- Message variation: identical scripts across hundreds of DMs look spammy. Use response randomization.

5. Low risk if: users comment the keyword first (authentic trigger), you're inside the 7-day window, and messages vary. The tool is fine, the sending pattern matters more.

Hi @jeong hyo bin , thanks for such a detailed question :)

Let me go through your questions one by one:

1. Is this workflow supported through ManyChat?
Yes, comment trigger -> auto-DM is one of ManyChat's core Instagram features. It's stable and officially supported by Meta.

2. Is follower-status checking available in flows?
Yes -> ManyChat has a native Condition block with a "Follows your account is true/false" option. No external integrations or technical knowledge required - it works out of the box in the flow builder. You can build exactly the flow you described: after the DM is sent, the system automatically checks whether the user follows you and branches the flow accordingly.

3. Is 200–300 DMs per day safe? That volume is within normal range. Instagram applies a limit of roughly 200 DMs/hour for automated sends. At 200–300 spread across the day you should be fine, as long as you're not sending them in short bursts.

4. Limits and best practices:

  • Avoid sending identical messages at scale -> Meta may flag it as spam
  • Vary your DM content (use multiple message variants)

5. Risk of account restrictions? With proper setup -> no. ManyChat is an official Meta partner. Risk comes from spammy behavior, forced interactions, or mass identical messages. Your use case sounds legitimate.

If you have questions about building the flow itself - happy to help.
