Hello everyone,

I’m facing a blocking issue with Instagram advanced permissions and I’ve already exhausted all standard setup steps, so I’d really appreciate guidance from anyone who has seen this before.

Context:

  • Instagram account is Business

  • Instagram is correctly connected to a Facebook Page

  • Facebook account is Admin and Owner

  • Business Manager is active and healthy

  • Two-factor authentication enabled

ManyChat is already connected and working for:

  • DM keyword automations

  • Comment → DM

  • Regular Instagram messaging

The problem:
When I try to enable “Welcome message for new followers”, ManyChat asks me to update permissions.
At that step, Meta always returns the error:

“You can’t log in with this Instagram account.
Try using a Facebook account that you know is connected to this Instagram account.”

Important details:

  • The error appears consistently and blocks the advanced permissions flow

  • There is no alternative login option or explanation from Meta

What I already tried:

  • Reconnecting Instagram from ManyChat

  • Removing and re-authorizing ManyChat in Facebook Apps

  • Verifying Business Manager and Page ownership

  • Checking that Instagram exists in only one Business Manager

  • Different browsers and networks

At this point, it seems like an internal Meta permission / token flag related specifically to Instagram Messaging advanced permissions.

Has anyone experienced this and managed to resolve it?
Is this something that requires a manual token reset or permission refresh from Meta / ManyChat staff?

Thanks in advance for any help or direction.

This is a known issue, multiple people in this community have reported the same error when trying to enable the new follower trigger. It seems to be a Meta-side bug that affects certain accounts.

From what I've seen in other threads, the only fix right now is:

1. Contact ManyChat support so they can escalate to Meta

2. Some people had luck disconnecting the Instagram completely from Business Manager (not just ManyChat), waiting 24-48 hours, then reconnecting fresh

3. A few resolved it by having a different admin on the Page attempt the authorization

Unfortunately it's not something you can fix yourself if those don't work, it's a Meta permissions flag issue that needs to be reset on their end.

Workaround from manychat bot helped me!

When you get to login with instagram dont click that, just change IG to FB and paste it back, login with facebook and connect asset. now it works. This is what they told me:

While Meta is working on a fix, here's a quick temporary workaround that might help resolve it.

Please try the following:

1. In Manychat, go to Settings → Channels → Instagram → Say hi to new followers → Set up → Update permissions

2. When the page opens and only shows the Instagram logincopy the full URL from your browser’s address bar.

3. Paste the URL into a text editor.

In that URL, replace every occurrence of “IG” with “FB”except the part that says “config”.

For example:

default_business_login_option=IG → default_business_login_option=FB

4. Do not change config → leave it as is.

5. Copy the edited URL back into your browser’s address bar and press Enter.

6. This should open the Facebook login page instead. Log in using your Facebook credentials (the same that manage your connected Page and Instagram account) and complete the authorization process.
