I am trying to understand how to get a person who comments (for example) “Core” on one of my videos to then go through the Manychat messaging to eventually be brought into my Active Campaign Automation. All the Youtube videos i see suggests it can only be done using Zapier, but then I don’t understand why there would be an integration in Manychat for AC?

You do not have to use Zapier for this unless the trigger is unsupported.

Use an Instagram or Facebook comment growth tool in ManyChat. Set the keyword trigger like “Core”, send the user into a flow, then add an action to sync the contact to ActiveCampaign. Map the fields and apply a tag so the automation starts inside ActiveCampaign.

Zapier is only needed if the entry point is not native to ManyChat. Otherwise the direct integration works fine once the contact is created and opted in.
