Profile limit and automation

Hey team - I’m new to manychat. I only want to use it for automations (sending a new follower a message). I’m not interested in the inbox features. I thought my profile limit would be linked to the number of hits I get on the automation but it seems it’s all messages into IG, even bots. Am I missing something? Is there a way to only pay for profiles when the automation fires? Thanks

Thanks - really useful info. How do I automatically delete contacts as you suggested? Thanks again Cata.

Hi @billyb — sure thing 🙂

In ManyChat, the easiest way is to create a Rule that automatically removes contacts based on conditions you set:

  1. Go to Settings → Rules → + New Rule

  2. Choose a Trigger (recommended: Date/Time based)

    • Example: X days after “Subscribed to bot” (or after last interaction, depending on your goal)

  3. Add Conditions (optional but recommended)

    • Example: Phone is empty AND/OR Email is empty

  4. Add the Action: Delete Contact

  5. Save + turn the Rule on

Example setup:
7 days after subscribed → IF Phone is emptyDelete Contact

Quick note: deleting a contact can’t be undone, so I’d suggest testing with a small segment first (or waiting a bit longer, like 14–30 days, if you want to be extra safe).

Hope this helps!

Hi @billyb , welcome to Manychat 👋

Regarding your question, your Manychat account is billed based on the number of contacts who interact with your inbox — this includes both new and existing users.

You can review the pricing structure here:
https://manychat.com/pricing

That said, you can create rules to automatically delete contacts who don’t meet your criteria (for example, those who didn’t provide an email or phone number) in order to better control your contact count and billing.

Hope this helps!

ManyChat bills based on all contacts who interact with your account, not just when an automation fires. Even bot-triggered messages count toward your profile limit.

To control billing, you can set up an automation to remove contacts who don’t meet your criteria (like missing email or phone). Use a flow with a condition check and the “Remove Contact” action to clean up automatically after a set time. This way, your contact count stays low and you only pay for engaged users.

ManyChat counts all contacts who interact with your account toward your profile limit, even bot-triggered messages. To control billing, set up a Rule to automatically delete contacts who don’t meet your criteria.

Go to Settings → Rules → + New Rule, choose a trigger (like X days after subscribing), add conditions (e.g., Phone or Email is empty), then add Delete Contact action and activate the Rule. Test on a small segment first since deletion can’t be undone. This keeps your contact count low and billing focused on engaged users.
