A quick question about whatsapp and pricing plans.
Does the Active Contacts limit included in the plan count WhatsApp contacts as well, or only Messenger / Instagram / other channels?
Specifically: 1. If the same person contacts me on Instagram and on WhatsApp, are they counted once or twice? 2. Is a WhatsApp contact counted as "active" only when they interact within the billing month, or as soon as they are in my audience? 3. Do WhatsApp contacts I import (rather than ones who message me first) count towards the limit?
I'm already using Manychat for Facebook and Instagram and I'm evaluating whether to move my WhatsApp automation over as well, so I need to understand whether that would push me over the included threshold.
Thanks!

Hi, @VinsMagma!
Here are the answers to your questions regarding how Active Contacts work with WhatsApp:
Instagram and WhatsApp contact count: If the same person interacts with you on both platforms, Manychat may count them as separate contacts by default because each channel creates its own contact profile. However, if Manychat can match them using a unique identifier (like the same phone number or email address), it can combine them into a single contact profile. If merged, they count as one Active Contact for that month.
When a contact becomes "active": A WhatsApp contact is only counted as "active" during billing cycles in which they actually engage with you or receive an automated message, broadcast, or Live Chat interaction. Simply sitting in your contact list or audience from previous months without any interaction during the current month will not count toward your Active Contacts limit.
Imported WhatsApp contacts: Importing contacts via CSV does not automatically make them active. They will only count toward your Active Contacts limit if you send them a message (such as a broadcast or automation flow) or if they interact with you during that billing month.
Keep in mind that while WhatsApp contacts count toward your overall Active Contacts limits, Meta also charges separate per-conversation fees for WhatsApp messages. 😉
