Smart Delay

Hi everyone!

I’m trying to connect my Instagram Opening Message to a Smart Delay inside a private reply flow, but ManyChat isn’t letting me link the two blocks.

Here’s what I’m trying to do:

  • IG Opening Message → Smart Delay (23 hours) → Next Step

  • But I can’t seem to connect the Opening Message to the Smart Delay when it’s set as a private reply.

Is there something I’m missing, like a setting, channel type, or a different block I should be using to trigger the delay?

Would really appreciate any tips or screenshots if you’ve set this up before!

@Annaina what exactly would be the ‘Instagram Opening Message’?

Do you have a screenshot of what you’re trying to setup?

Hi Gustavo,

I’m trying to connect a Smart Delay to my Opening Message, (please see screenshot) but I can’t seem to find an option to do that directly.

What I’ve set up so far:

  • Trigger: User comments on a Post or Reel

  • This correctly sends them to 1A - Opening Message

  • After that, I want to add a Smart Delay (23 hours)

  • Then send 1B - 24hr Delay Message

The issue:
When I click on the Opening Message, I don’t see any option to connect or insert a Smart Delay directly after it. The Smart Delay seems to exist as a separate step, but I can’t figure out how to attach it in the flow so it runs after the Opening Message.

What I’m trying to achieve:

  • Opening Message sends immediately after the comment trigger

  • If the user doesn’t respond, wait 23 hours

  • Then send the follow-up message automatically

Am I missing a step in how Smart Delays are meant to be connected in this scenario, or is there a different best practice for sequencing this?

Thanks in advance 🙏

@Annaina you can't connect a smart delay after the opening message. This is a limitation imposed by Meta.

To be able to use the smart delay, the person has to interact first (click a button or write something).

Thank you so much for explaining Gustavo!
