Hi everyone,

I'm trying to better understand how ManyChat counts contacts and how to manage my contact limit more effectively. I have a few questions:

1. How exactly are contacts counted? I deleted all my contacts and disabled all my flows, but I'm still seeing new contacts being added to my count whenever someone messages me on Facebook. Is this expected behavior? Does ManyChat automatically count anyone who sends a DM, even without active automations?

2. Contact cleanup automation: Is there a way to set up automatic rules or filters that periodically remove contacts who haven't engaged in X days? Or do I need to manually delete inactive contacts regularly?

I'm trying to stay on the free plan while keeping my list clean and engaged, so any tips or clarification would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Kathy, yes anytime someone sends a message it auto adds them. So you will need to clean up your list every now and then.

@Kathy L. Hey Kathy! Here is a tutorial on that:

Just make sure you use the “Delete contact” action instead of the “Opt-out” as I use in the video.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply @Don M. !

@Joren Wouters Great video, everything was super clear thank you so much! I don’t need to store any user information (like first name, last name, or email) on ManyChat, since users will subscribe to my Klaviyo email list through the link they receive. Should I set the flow to trigger daily so it automatically cleans up my contacts as soon as possible?

@Kathy L. I highly recommend not just sending a link in your DM Automation, that will kill your conversions. Landing pages only convert at 5%, while DM Automations (where you ask the name + email in the DMs) have a conversion rate of 50% (or more). This means you can 10X your leads by switching from a landing page to a DM Automation.

If you want to know how to set this up, check this:

P.S. Manychat has a direct integration with Klaviyo. So every time you get someone's email in Manychat, you can automatically send it to Klaviyo. You can find it under Settings > Integrations.

Thanks again for the reply @Joren Wouters, the current CTR for all my flows are about 60% so I’ll not try to fix something that’s not broken 😀Great videos, I’ll definitely subscribe!
