Hi ManyChat team and community,

I’ve encountered a serious issue with Instagram automation flows in ManyChat:

When users click a button with a link (set to open an external URL), they are not redirected to the target website.

Instead, the button click opens the Google Play Store page for the “Threads” app by Meta.

I’ve personally taken a screenshot of my own Android device showing this behavior.

This is not a misconfiguration – the button is correctly set with an external URL. (Button opens external URL correctly with IOS)

I’ve received multiple complaints from followers who can’t access what I promised.

Thanks for your attention!

Exactly the same problem here - all the links are right configurated, but it sends Followers to Threads! What is going on? Did you get help?

I have the same problem! I can’t find out why it’s happening. This is serious hurting the business.

I’m having the same issue. This is holding up an entire campaign launch for my business. Hoping ManyChat can offer a solution ASAP. Commenting to get some attention from their team.

We’ve been facing the same issue, All our links malfunctioning

Yeah but I reached out to followers and it seems that some have the issue and for some the links are functioning. It`s hurting my business. How can I reach out for directly manychat support?

Hi guys,

Did you receive any support of did one of you figured out how to resolve it?
Please let me know.

Lisette

I could find out that the issue seems to appear only in the app, not in the browser. Can you check, please?

And it`s also missleading to threads when you type the link manually.

Therefore we have to contact the Instagram Support team which I did right now.

Same issue here with client’s flows. Link should go to an external link - it’s correct in the automation, but when the user clicks, they’re being asked to download Threads. This is affecting some users, not all of them.

Yes, i can confirm. The browser shows the correct link. The app guides you to threads…

Unfortunately, almost everyone orders via the phone nowadays..

Manychat support team told me to clean the cache of my Instagram app. I did, but it doesnt work yet. I will keep you posted, i hope you will do the same guys :)

I called Instagram. We were on the phone for 1,5 hours and they basically told me that Manychat goes against Meta policies. I find that hard to believe. Hopefully it will be resolved.

I think the complaint should go to Instagram (Meta), since for some strange reason, since the last update, no links open.

Not only are the ManyChat links faulty, but all of them. This is because the Instagram app has modified the settings of the integrated "browser," where all links open within the embedded browser of the Instagram app.

This isn't the correct forum; ManyChat is working fine.

Try sending links from YouTube, Instagram itself, or any website; they all give this unfortunate "error."

It's true. Except no one reads the fine print (tems and conditions). It seemed hard to believe that Mark Zuckerberg would allow this drain of traffic outside the app. Any leak of people outside the app is penalized by algorithms or with drastic measures; it's already happened. Sadly, I see where things are going; this will end soon.

Hello guys!
While Manychat is currently looking for additional information why this is happening, a workaround is to set your Instagram settings to open links in an external browser instead of the in-app.

Go to your Instagram profile → settings → Site and App Permissions → Message Links

I also know that this setting has to be set on the user’s end, so in your automation after the button with the link, you can add a message with a link (plain text) and advise the user to copy & paste the link if the button doesn’t work correctly.

Hi Guys, :)

I got this advice from Manychat:

It seems that the issue is affecting Android users specifically. There's something wrong with the way the IG app internal browser executes link redirection.  So it can be solved by turning off Instagram's default browser. Here's how to do it:

Step 1: On your profile page, tap the three horizontal (≡) lines (hamburger icon) at the top right corner.

Step 2: Under Settings and Privacy, scroll down and tap on the "Website Permissions" option. Then, select the "Message Links" option.

Step 3: You will see an option labelled "Open In External Browser". It should have a toggle next to it, which is off by default. Tap on the toggle button to turn it on.

Hopefully it helps :)

Guys, please check this out: Not only Manychat automations, but ALL kind of links lead to Meta Threads. Please try!

And its only in the app, not browser!

Here is what to do: Write to the Instagram support. Don't mention Manchat because the chat temperature is getting freezing cold after you mention it - they seem to be allergic to Manychat.

But tell them that links in GENERAL are doing the Threads-thing. Then they communicate with you. I'm still on it but the problem is completely new to them! Please reach out to Instagram support so we can fix this instantly 🙏🏻

Tried this fix, but unfortunately the issue still happens on Android — links still open in Threads instead of the actual URL. Anyone found a better workaround?

Dear admin,

the open site redirect site is down fix it as soon as possible it’s disrupting our business.

Hey

Manychat is aware of this situation and the team is looking for additional information.
Thank you for your patience, and please, keep checking this thread for more updates.

This doesn’t work for me.

I found out the following in the last days:

● the problem occurs only in the Instagram App, not browser

● the problem is not a automation, but ALL kind of links in DMs. Try!

● could be a problem between Insta and Android

● Insta Support might end supporting when the see Manychat involved.

So I think the problem ist nit Manychat, but the Insta App.

What to do?

Contact the Instagram Support and say the problem are links IN GENERAL, don't mention Manychat. It's exhausting, but I don't know what else to do

Got this new reply from Manychat:

Tech Support got back to me and said that this might fix the issuePlease go to Settings → General → Card URL Shortener and choose 'shortener is disabled,'

The problem also occurs with manual links, with make and n8n automations, etc.

In the latest update to the Instagram app, they tweaked several settings in the built-in browser, and this isn't the first time.

I suspect it's just a bug, but also, with so many people using ManyChat's "comment keyword," perhaps it was a deliberate decision to stop so much spam.

Has anyone tried this and confirmed it worked? I just it but I’ll monitor my DMs to see if I get any more people saying that it opens threads.

To be honest, i am scared to try. My clients are a bit irritated for trying many different things and that still didn’t work out. It would be nice if Manychat tried it themselves and would get back to us if it works…

But maybe i am asking for to much. I dont know whats normal in this case or in these days. ;-)

Hello everyone!

It’s working again. I made a new stream from scratch! Just try it!

Big hug form a very relieved an happy Lisette from the Netherlands.
