Workaround that finally fixed the “Say hi to new followers” Update Permissions bug

Hi everyone,⁣

I want to share how I solved the “Update Permissions” issue — the one where you can’t log in with your Instagram account and can’t connect the “Say hi to new followers” automation.⁣

I also tried the suggested workaround (editing the URL by replacing “IG” with “FB”), but it didn’t work for me.⁣

In the end, the only method that actually fixed the problem was this workaround:

  • I added a second Facebook account (from a friend) as a “person” inside my Business Manager.⁣
  • I assigned my Instagram page as a “resource” to this second Facebook account.⁣
  • I logged into ManyChat using this secondary Facebook account.⁣
  • From there, I connected my Instagram page to ManyChat.⁣
  • This finally allowed me to complete the “Update Permissions” flow, which was impossible to finish from my main account.⁣

After that:⁣

  • I activated the Pro Trial on this temporary account.⁣
  • Then I transferred the ownership of the ManyChat account back to my main account.⁣

From that moment on, Instagram has been connected correctly and the “Say hi to new followers” automation started working as expected.⁣

I hope this helps others too — this issue seems to be very common.

Thanks for sharing this @ceglia_carlo !

I haven’t tried doing this from other Business Manager Admins yet, I’ll definitely give it a go!

And I hope Meta fixes this soon!!

Hi @ceglia_carlo ,

Thanks so much for sharing this workaround — very clever solution 🥳

Really smart thinking to approach it from the Business Manager permissions angle. I’m sure this will help a lot of people who get stuck with the IG connection and “Say hi to new followers” setup.

Appreciate you taking the time to document it step by step!

best regards!

@ceglia_carlo  Is this feature  “Say hi to new followers” working for you ? I saw tons of topics that this feature is not working anymore and probably won’t work in future.

Yes, it’s working for me after applying the workaround I shared.

“Say hi to new followers”

so far i can’t get this to work, i’m probably missing something, but i keep getting this permissions update issue. Any further info or step by step process that could help, is welcomed

It didn't work for me. When logging in Manychat from the secondary FB account, it detects I already have an IG linked to that profile, it makes me accept connecting to that IG account, and after that it blocks me from getting into the secondary Manychat account, stating that "it doesn't exist a Manychat account for this login option”. It’s a pity, I thought I was close to getting it

I managed to fix what I mentioned in my previous comment, I continued with the steps, but even though the secondary account was the owner and got the permissions, I still got the same message as the begging: the feature was not available in my account. Maybe the secondary account (a new FB account I created for this purpose) also didn't get  the permissions for some reason?

@ceglia_carlo it could help if you record the process in Loom or similar software, to verify if I’m really doing the steps described correctly. Could you do that and share it here? It would be much appreciated, thanks

@adriasonet @Cam

Hi! I understand the request for a tutorial and I’d be open to doing it.

The issue is that this is a fairly delicate process: at the moment everything is working correctly in my account, and repeating the entire procedure just to record a video could change the current permission state and put me back in the same situation.

For this reason, I prefer to avoid repeating the process on my active account.

That said, you can contact me privately (or even here in the comments) and, if possible, send me a Loom video showing all the steps you’re taking. This way I can see if there’s any step that isn’t being executed correctly.
